This site is dedicated to collecting information about the SUNSHINE BLEACH CO PTY LTD created and owned by my Scottish immigrant grandparents, Ann and David Gough, from 1953 to c.1961 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Ann and David and three of their four children emigrated from Glasgow to Melbourne in 1848.
The Gough family developed, produced and marketed at least 6 cleaning products during this period. My father, David Gough, printed the labels. Bruce Riseley designed the labels.
1: DAI-ZONE (1953?-58?) “for a stain free, daisy fresh wash”
2: GOUGH’S LAVENDER (dates?) “Spreads its healthy freshness instantly”
3: PERFECTANT (1954-56)
4: PINEFUME “the fresh clean odour of pine forests”
5: GOUGH’S SILICONE CAR POLISH (1957-61?)
6: NYLOZONE (1957-?)
**NO ‘real’ LABEL FOUND for above product YET. Was it a jar or tin ?
The Elizabeth St end, right side, top, of Flinders Street Station had a giant moving daisy neon sign in the late 1950s (more information gratefully received). [Image from Victorian Public records Office: VPRS12800P3 ADV/1691]. If anyone has any film footage of this neon sign moving and losing its petals please let me know!
My grandparents were on Melbourne 3UZ radio and channel 9 tv ads in the late 50s [possibly to early 60s] where they discussed and demonstrated some of these products. My grandfather spoke on Friday mornings with Nancy Lee on a 30 minute talk back program on 3UZ : “Getting to know you”
Graham Kennedy did live Gough product ads [not sure how many, or when [somewhere between c1957-62] for at least one product: “Gough’s Lavender” on his channel 9 tv show In Melbourne Tonight.
The NFSA [National Film and Sound Archives] Canberra have listed 3 audio Gough’s Lavender adverts in their collection. Title No: 202542

Currently I have labels for DAI-ZONE, PINEFUME, GOUGH’S LAVENDER and PERFECTANT.
But I have never seen any of them still on products/packaging – so if anyone knows how I might obtain or view the actual products/containers for any of the products please also let me know.
Any stories, information including correcting any of the above information about these products and their marketing that any reader can share/provide in the comments box below would be greatly valued.

In July 2015 Ashleigh Floyer from Lorne in Victoria found a DAI ZONE bottle ! and not only that, but she made contact and posted it to me. This was incredibly kind and it is a fantastic item to have to along with some of the labels. I am finally able to hold my first DAIZONE bottle !
UPDATE
“The factory was on the cnr of Juliet st and Wilson st Moonee Ponds. You can still see the yellow paint on the building (on google earth at least), don’t know if you can make out the Daizone sign – it hasn’t been painted over! I was a student at the school in 1950.” ed
